This worked piece of agate on a metal base combines the layered patterning of the stone with finely crystalline quartz areas. Concentric bands in shades of grey, brown and white reveal successive stages of mineral growth, while the warm tones are linked to the presence of iron oxides. The slender stand showcases the irregular edge of the piece, emphasising its raw, mineral character.

Agate is a hard and durable stone, but its hollows and crystalline areas collect dust, so they are best cleaned with a dry, soft brush.
