Selenite

Selenite: Everything You Need to Know
Selenite is an exceptionally soft mineral, ranking just 2 on the Mohs hardness scale - meaning it can be scratched with a fingernail. It requires careful handling: avoid impacts, scratches, and contact with water, which can slowly dissolve its surface.
No - selenite is sensitive to water. Since gypsum is slightly water-soluble, prolonged contact with moisture can dull, damage, or even dissolve the crystal's surface. Use only a dry or very slightly damp soft cloth for cleaning.
Selenite is relatively resistant to sunlight and does not fade as easily as some other minerals. However, prolonged exposure to intense heat can cause the gypsum to dehydrate and the surface to gradually dull, so moderate sunlight exposure is recommended.
Orange selenite (also called peach selenite) is a variety of selenite whose warm, orange-peach color comes from hematite inclusions - an iron-rich mineral. The more hematite present, the deeper and more saturated the orange hue. The main deposits of orange selenite are found in Mexico and Morocco.
