This amethyst geode on a metal stand reveals an interior filled with intensely violet crystals, among which a pale calcite crystal stands out. The colour of amethyst comes from trace amounts of iron which, under natural radiation, give the quartz its deep purple hue. The irregular, greyish-white chalcedony rim defines the organic outline of the piece, which reads well against a wall or in an open space.

Amethyst may lose colour saturation in direct sunlight. The calcite crystal is much softer than quartz and sensitive to cleaning agents, so the geode is best dusted with a dry brush.
